Serenity

Serenity – calm, tranquil, peaceful as opposed to angst ridden, agitated, disrupted or troubled.  How serene are you?  Being aware or consciously seeking to be more serene in your daily life does not mean walking around in a virtual coma or trance.

To be open to serenity has different meanings for each person.  For me, it’s stopping for a moment before I react and try to get all the facts before I get irritated – my irritation engulfs me quickly.  Nothing to brag about but it is my daily reality so I strive to manage it.

For someone else it may be completing certain tasks before they go to work or before the kids get home from school. It may also mean having the chutzpah to say no to something you really don't want to do.

Take 30 seconds to mentally investigate what would help encourage some serenity in your life.  This is a serenity that is dependent on you not on others or those with whom you live.

It’s all about you!

Environment

Your environment is definitely a reflection of what is going on inside.  Be it emotional, mental, economic etc.

Think about when you travel or sightsee – you are getting a quick glimpse of a culture, mentality, history of a country or people.  At first glance you may not feel like it’s telling you very much but stop and look closely.

A lot can be gleaned or discerned from the outward display.

Our homes or offices can give us valuable insight into our inner workings. You may not think so initially but humour me.  Put on your objective lenses for a moment – enter an area of your home, office or your car.  Objectively, what do you see?  The beauty of this experiment is that you do not have to say anything out loud or allow anyone else to see what you see.  This is a little self analysis.

What things pop out to you?  Food, food containers or wrappers, books, papers, magazines, clothes, shoes, rubbish, unfinished projects, good intentions, other people’s things, collections, furniture, storage products, chachkas, plants?

You can see where I’m going with this.  Be brave and take a few minutes of self reflection to identify some of the roots of your clutter.

As you ponder it over the following days be open and honest enough with yourself to gain some insight into your soul.

At best you will be pleased or at least good with what you may learn.  At worst, you will have added a layer of understanding to yourself so that you can really be a friend to yourself and maybe tackle some of the clutter with additional discernment and wisdom.

RESPECT

Do you respect your space?  What does that mean?  It means do you take steps to say, ‘I’m in control of my day/space/area/mind?’

When you start your day what could you do to actually carpe diem?  Make your bed, wash your face with product, step into fresh clothes, apply makeup, eat a reasonable breakfast, pack a lunch?  The list goes on and so does its subjective application.

What would help you – feel that you are respecting your space?  If there is unidentified or unclassified crap randomly spewed about your area – what message are you sending yourself?  That you are awesome and worth it?  Or, that you suck and you will only ever be mediocre at best?

One of these things just doesn’t belong here!  (hum Sesame Street tune now)  Kick it to the kerb and let’s embrace the diem.  Don’t drown yourself in the pressure to create a habit just embrace today and claim the respect.

You are worth it, you do matter and it is your right as a human to be your best.  So put your money where your mouth is and do one thing to show yourself that what you are saying is actually fact.  It’s a dare, be brave and take it on.
