I’m crying. I actively miss common sense. Dramatics aside this is a true statement. The attribute that many take for granted as an innate possession we are born with is rapidly on the decline.
From not being able to make change to getting hit by a car while playing Pokemon Go there is an issue we must acknowledge.
I despair that this is the new socially accepted norm. What is to blame for this decay of our mental prowess? Some theories present themselves but they are only theories. I’m hoping that by addressing the situation we may begin to see the value in preserving this dying art of being able to listen to our brain gut and devise a strategy to keep it from becoming extinct.
Do you want this acumen to be something that you orally pass on to the next generation as some long ago folklore?
Possible theories:
Laziness – Could be that it’s just easier to feign ineptitude and wait for someone else to make the next move.
If that is your M.O. it’s your choice but your laziness will know no bounds and you will reap the consequences further down the line. Laziness will become your go to bar level and therefore you will not enjoy the fulfillment that is readily possible.
Lack of I.Q. – A possibility but I’m not sure it’s a true factor. Even those of us with a regular or lacking I.Q. have many natural sensors that cannot be denied and can be honed if identified.
Low expectations – The truth I fear lies within this explanation (for the vast majority). Dumb it down – the prevailing motto since the mid 90’s. Are we truly better off? Feel good, no expectations, no disappointments. Not true – the struggle is real. Few actually reach the bar but the lower it is held the lower the actual attainment. That is not good for anyone.
Integrity, self respect, work ethic – these have all gone by the wayside in favour of feel good, follow your heart, why should I attitudes. Take a soul check. Is this the best you can do? If your answer is a cocky yes then I beg to differ.
